More about...

Robyn Gore

When and where were you born?   Robyn Gore - breaststroke
1st September 1993, in Hereford hospital.

Where do you live and have you always lived there?

I've lived in Leominster all my life although when i was 3 we moved as we needed more room.
Which school/college do you go to and what do you think of it?

I am currently at Bedstone College, i like the fact that i can do sport everyday of the week and i love the long holidays, but i hate Saturday school.

Do you have any brothers or sisters? If so, are they involved in any sport?
I have one brother, William who swims at Ludlow, but his main sport is football, he plays for Leominster Minors every Saturday.

Apart from swimming, what other sports do you enjoy?

I play pretty much every sport and have done since a young age. I have been horse riding since the age of 3 and have my own horse, Milly. I am in the 1st Hockey and netball teams at my school. I also run cross country, do athletics in which i run 800m.

What do you do to relax?

When i have free time, i watch TV, my favourite series at the moment is Gavin and Stacey and I also enjoyed Spooks. I also watch a lot of films and DVDs, my favourite film is Gladiator. I listen to a lot of music and my favourite band is Muse, I also read a lot and at the moment I am reading a lot of books my Philippa Gregory.
If you could go on holiday anywhere you like, where would you go, what would you do?
Well I have been to a lot of places that i would like to go to, 3 years ago me and my family went to New Zealand for a month and I loved it, so i would like to go back there. I would also love to travel go inter-railing around europe for a few months once i leave college.
Could you describe a typical day in your life?
I wake up at 6 45 to catch the bus at 7.30, I get to school at 8.30 and lessons start at 9. In the morning i have 3 lessons with a 30 minute break at 11. We then have another 2 lessons and our lunch break starts at 12 50. At 2 we either have sport, and on some days we have either an activity or free time. Lessons start again at 3 15 and we then have another 3 lessons until the end of school at 5 30. I then get on the bus and either get dropped off to go swimming or go home and then go swimming. Either way i have little time to eat my tea. I swim or go to the gym in the evenings and then when i get back home i do my work if i have any or watch TV. I go to bed at about 10.

Robyn Gore   How did you first get involved in swimming?
I used to go swimming with my dad every sunday in leominster and started lessons at the age of 3. My mum first taught me butterfly in my aunt's swimming pool when i was 7.
What do you like about it?
I like the fact that you are in complete control of what is happening, unlike team games. I can control what speed i go and if something goes wrong i have only myself to blame. But there are also team galas which brings everyone together, and training is good fun at times as well.
What is your best/favourite stroke?
Breaststroke and my favourite event is 50m breaststroke.
Where do you train/which club(s) do you swim for?
I swim at Ludlow Swimming Club, and sometimes I swim in the public sessions at Leominster.
Your greatest swimming achievement so far?
When i won a bronze in the 50m breaststroke final at the Midlands in 2009.
What about your worst swimming moment?
Counties when i was 11, I dived in for the 100 IM and i was ranked the fastest and my goggles came off.

Who has/have been most influential in your swimming career?
My mum, she made me train when i didn't want to and made me realise that if i train hard enough i can achieve what i want.

What have been the main swimming events for you this year?

County age groups, Midlands and Worcester Open, i haven't competed as much this year because of school work.

What are your goals for the coming year and for the more distant future?

I hope to equal my performance at Midlands and to get national times. I hope to continue swimming at university and compete in the university games.
Do you have any tips for Ludlow SC swimmers?
Set yourself realistic goals for the coming year, then goals for 3 years time. Train hard and don't expect too much of yourself.
