Shropshire Junior Swimming Squad - Kingerlee Trophy Gala
The recent junior inter-county swimming gala at Milton Keynes was an incredibly high standard - our county swimmers have to take on some of the best swimmers in their age group in England.

Swimmers achieved some excellent results on the day with 17 new personal bests recorded from the 32 individual swims, including four 1st places, three 2nd places and three 3rd places.
Intercounty junior squad 100509

Swimmers gaining 1st place in their events were:

  • Christina Jones (Northgate) – 11 year old girls 50m breaststroke
  • Daniel Jones (Oswestry Otters) – 12 year old boys 100m butterfly
  • Maddy Tracy (Oakengates) – 13 year old girls 100m freestyle
  • Olivia Phoenix (Oakengates) – 13 year old girls 100m backstroke

Swimmers gaining 2nd place in their events were:           

  • Georgina Huddlestone (Shrewsbury) – 10 year old girls 50m breaststroke
  • Robert Adams (Oakengates) – 12 year old boys 100m breaststroke
  • Harriet Themans (Northgate) – 13 year old girls 100m butterfly

Swimmers gaining 3rd place in their events were:           

  • Lauren Holland (Oakengates) – 10 year old girls 50m freestyle
  • Emily Dewfield (Northgate) – 11 year old girls 50m butterfly
  • Hannah Greene (Ellesmere College Titans) – 12 year old girls 100m freestyle
The relays also proved fruitful with very strong performances from the 10 and 13 year old girls’ teams and the 12 year old boys’ teams.  The 10 & 13 year old girls both gaining 2nd place in the freestyle relay and 3rd place in the medley relay whilst the 12 year old boys team took 2nd place in the medley relay (narrowly missing out on 1st place by 7/100 of a second) and a 3rd in the freestyle relay.
This gala saw a number of new swimmers joining the Shropshire squad and they were all presented with their county colours in recognition of their selection for the county team. They were:
